A delegation from the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) visited the SSUA ASEAN Center during a meeting held on 14 November 2025 in the Senate Hall of the Rectorate at the Social Sciences University of Ankara (SSUA). The meeting addressed various topics related to Asian studies, academic cooperation processes, and potential joint projects between the two institutions, with mutual evaluations exchanged throughout the session.
Representing SSUA were Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Münire Kevser Baş, ASEAN Center Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hatice Çelik, Deputy Directors Dr. Vuslat Nur Şahin Temel and Dr. Yusuf Avcı, Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif Kireçci, and Asia-focused scholars from the Institute of Area Studies.
The Sasakawa Peace Foundation delegation included Itsu Adachi, Executive Director of SPF; Sophian Whayeb, SPF Program Officer; Ippeita Nishida, SPF Senior Researcher; and Prof. Dr. Masaki Kakizaki, faculty member at Temple University Japan Campus.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on developing joint research projects, diversifying academic exchange programs, and establishing new areas of collaboration within the scope of regional studies. It was noted that the discussions took place in a constructive and productive atmosphere, with fruitful exchanges of information between the delegations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both the SSUA ASEAN Center and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation expressed their intention to continue consultations on potential areas of future cooperation and to further expand opportunities for collaboration.
