The ASEAN Research Center, based at the Social Sciences University of Ankara (SSUA), is an interdisciplinary hub dedicated to Southeast Asia and the ten member states of ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations). The Center advances rigorous research, graduate education, and academic collaboration, focusing on the region’s political, economic, social, and cultural dynamics.
Its core mission is twofold: to deepen scholarly understanding of ASEAN’s global significance and to strengthen Türkiye’s academic engagement with Southeast Asia. Through analysis, comparative area studies, and cross-disciplinary research, the Center helps cultivate regional expertise in Türkiye.
Within this scope, the Center:
Conducts and supports ASEAN-focused academic research;
Organizes conferences, seminars, and workshops;
Promotes student and faculty exchanges and joint research projects;
Builds institutional partnerships with universities, think tanks, and research networks across ASEAN;
Publishes academic and policy-oriented papers, reports, and analyses.
Beyond its academic profile, the Center aims to serve as a bridge between Türkiye and ASEAN—creating a sustainable platform for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
Guided by depth in area studies, excellence in scholarship, and openness to international cooperation, the ASEAN Research Center aspires to be a leading institution for Southeast Asian studies in Türkiye.
