ASBÜ ASEAN Research and Application Center Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hatice Çelik, Deputy Director Dr. Yusuf Avcı, ASBÜ Area Studies academics Prof. Dr. Elem Eyrice Tepeciklioğlu, Dr. Yavuz Çelik, Dr. Gizem Bütün, Dr. Tufan Kutay Boran, and Research Assistant Ayşe Zümra Kendir attended the conference "Hegemonic Transition and Global South Initiatives for a New World Order: Toward a New Global South Studies in the Age of Turbulence," held on 21-22 September 2026 at Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara.

Organized by METU in cooperation with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) under the JSPS Core-to-Core Program, the conference brought together scholars from Japan, Türkiye, Indonesia, Malaysia, and South Africa. Over the course of two days, discussions addressed the strategic responses of Global South countries to the systemic order vacuum, as well as the structural conditions of academic knowledge production, alongside a dedicated forum for young scholars. The conference was regarded as a significant step toward building an international research network for the "New Global South Studies."
